Shipping to Guyana

We ship to the Port of Georgetown, Guyana’s primary point of entry for used commercial vehicles. Trucks typically travel by RoRo (roll-on/roll-off) vessel, with sea transit from the UK usually in the region of 4–5 weeks depending on sailing schedule and route

Import rules you should know before you buy

Guyana’s vehicle import framework is administered by the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA). It’s a lefthand-traffic country, but, unlike most of your other export markets, Guyana permits both drive configurations, which gives buyers real flexibility:

RHD and LHD both permitted – right-hand drive vehicles are standard and generally preferred for driving in local traffic, but left-hand drive vehicles (common from the US and Canada) are also legal and widely used.

Age limits differ by vehicle class – passenger vehicles currently have no maximum age restriction in Guyana (a previous 8-year limit was removed). Small trucks up to 3 tonnes must be under 4 years old. Heavier commercial trucks fall under separate regulations, and available public guidance doesn’t clearly state a specific age threshold for them, we recommend confirming the current position for your specific truck’s weight class with GRA or your clearing agent before purchase.

Pre-shipment inspection – an authorised pre-shipment inspection certificate has been mandatory for used vehicle imports since February 2025; vehicles without one will not clear customs.

Documentation – expect to need the bill of lading, commercial invoice, TIN, export certificate or cancellation of registration, and the pre-shipment inspection certificate, processed through Guyana’s ASYCUDA World customs system.

Duty and taxes – for vehicles four years and older, customs duty and VAT are typically 0%, with tax consolidated into a single excise charge based on engine size and fuel type; rates differ for gasoline versus diesel vehicles.

Guyana’s import rules for heavier commercial vehicles aren’t as clearly documented in public guidance as the rules for passenger cars, we recommend confirming current age thresholds and duty treatment for your specific truck with GRA or a licensed clearing agent before finalising a purchase.
