Used Trucks for Export to Namibia

Namibia’s vehicle import rules are set by the Ministry of International Relations and Trade alongside the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA), and they were tightened at the start of 2026: 

• Right-hand drive required – left-hand drive vehicles are not permitted for general registration, with limited exceptions for specialised vehicles such as ambulances, fire tenders, or large construction equipment brought in for specific projects. 
• Age limit – as of January 2026, Namibia prohibits the import of used vehicles older than 12 years from date of manufacture, for imports from outside the Common Customs Area (South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho). This tightened rule is described by the government as applying to “second-hand passenger and light commercial vehicles” – whether it extends to heavier haulage trucks in the same way, or whether heavier commercial vehicles are treated separately, isn’t fully clear from public guidance yet. We recommend confirming the current threshold for your specific truck category with NamRA or your Namibian clearing agent before committing to a purchase. 
• Walvis Bay compliance inspection – vehicles are inspected for compliance on arrival at Walvis Bay. 
• Documentation – expect to need the original bill of lading (showing chassis number, make, model, and year of manufacture), registration papers, invoice or agreement of sale, and insurance and freight documents.
