Zambia’s vehicle import framework is administered by the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA). Unlike some neighbouring markets, Zambia does not appear to apply an outright age ban on used trucks, instead, older vehicles are taxed differently rather than refused entry: 

• No confirmed hard age cutoff for trucks – ZRA’s specific duty schedule taxes vehicles in age bands (broadly, 2–5 years and 5+ years), with most imported commercial vehicles falling into the 5+ year band rather than being excluded outright. This is a genuine practical advantage over markets with strict cutoffs, though rules can change, so it’s worth a quick confirmation with ZRA or your clearing agent for your specific vehicle category. 
• Duty structure – customs duty (0–40% depending on goods category), a Carbon Emission Surtax based on engine capacity, and 16% VAT apply, calculated on CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight) value. Zambia’s specific duty schedule for used commercial vehicles is published annually by ZRA. 
• Documentation – expect to need the bill of lading, commercial invoice, TIN registration, and any applicable exemption or clearance letters, declared through Zambia’s customs electronic processing system.
